About Us
Who Are We
The LSESU China Development Society (CDS) was established in 2002 at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). As the pioneer organisation on campus to focus on issues surrounding China's development and rapidly changing landscape, we have established ourselves as one of the few highly respected societies on campus with a membership base of over 3000 students, alumni, and professionals.
We are also collaborating with many premium organisations, ranging from academic institutions, government agencies, think tanks, media outlets, etc. Notable past partners include LSE Asia Research Centre, the Confucius Institute for Business London, the 48 Group Club and the China Britain Business Council.
We aspire to become one of the most influential China-oriented student bodies in Europe and our goal is to nurture and empower the leaders of tomorrow. We believe that through the dedication of every executive committee, our society can eventually build the ideal platform for people to acquire a better and more impartial understanding of China through facilitating free exchange of information and ideas, as well as to prepare those who wish to contribute to China’s future development for the challenges lying ahead.
Our Mission
We aim to foster nuanced and comprehensive understandings of China by organising public lectures, informative corporate presentations, large-scale conferences, networking sessions, embassy visits, and other cultural activities for our members and the wider public, providing opportunities for students and professionals to interact with world-leading scholars and experts in sectors including politics, public policy, and commerce.
Over the past 22 years, CDS has become one of the most influential organisations among elite universities. Among our initiatives, the LSE China Development Forum and the LSE China-Britain Business Forum have become two of the largest China-themed forums in Europe. The two events together have invited more than 500 high-profile guests and have had over 10,000 attendees.
Our Values
Carrying a long-standing vision of "Bridging Perspectives and Opportunities", our society strives to promote a global understanding of China. We are dedicated to bridging the gap between China and the world, promoting a more comprehensive and objective understanding of China on a global scale.
